The Asian Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction 2016 was hosted by the Government of India at Vigyan Bahawan, New Delhi, India from 2-5 November 2016. The conference has gathered more than 500 delegates comprising Minsters, Vice Ministers, Ambassadors, Government officials and representative from INGOs, NGOs, Civil Societies from Asia and the Pacific Regions. The conference was graced by the Hon’ble Prime Minster of India.
From the Bhutan, the delegation of 5 members led by the Hon’ble Nangsid Lyonpo Dawa Gyalsthen attended the conference. The Hon’ble Lyonpo delivered a country statement on the Disaster Risk Reduction initiatives in Bhutan. The Hon’ble Lyonpo has strongly sounded the need of global and regional cooperation in managing the disasters and reminded the house to be very realistic and practical. He further urged everyone to Walk the Talk based on the ground reality and not on air base.The Hon’ble Lyonpo also conveyed the Royal Government of Bhutan’s commitment and engagement in managing disaster be it globally or locally.
The Conference concluded with two landmark outcomes; Asian Regional Plan for Implementation of Sendai Framework and the Delhi Declaration 2016.
