As a part of their orientation program organized by the Ministry of Home and Cultural Affairs (MoHCA), the five new Dzongdags of Bumthang, Dagana, Mongar, Trashigang and Tsirang made a courtesy visit to His Excellency, the Hon’ble Home and Cultural Affairs Minister today.
While expressing his sincere appreciation and Tashi Delek to the new appointees, His Excellency mentioned that their appointments were unprecedented at a time when major reforms were being initiated under the farsighted leadership and guidance of His Majesty the King. Lyonpo highlighted that Dzongdags have much bigger role to play as the head of the Dzongkhag Administration, especially at this critical juncture of major transformation and it is an opportune moment for them to serve in line with the trust and confidence bestowed upon them.
Lyonpo also pointed out some of the issues at local governments and highlighted on the need to strengthen coordination and collaboration at all levels wherein the dynamic leadership of Dzongdags could play a vital role. He also mentioned about the importance of maintaining strong affiliation between the Home Ministry and Dzongkhags from governance aspects.
Following the courtesy call, they met with the Secretary of the MoHCA. They will have session with the Department of Civil Registration and Census, Civil Society Organizations Authority and Department of Disaster Management in the afternoon. They will also meet with the Department of Culture, Department of Local Governance, Department of Law and Order and Department of Immigration on 17th October 2022.
The new Bumthang Dzongdag is Ratna Bahadur Gurung (Phd) from Tsirang, who was serving as Specialist Head III at Department of Livestock, Ministry of Agriculture and Forests (MoAF). Tashi Tobgay from Mongar, who was serving as the Deputy Auditor General is the new Dagana Dzongdag. Former Executive Secretary of Phuntsholing Thromde, Lungten Jamtsho from Pemagatshel is the new Mongar Dzongdag. Ugyen Dorji from Pemagatshel is the new Trashigang Dzongdag who was serving as the Joint Auditor General. The new Tsirang Dzongdag is Sonam from Bumthang, who was serving as Specialist Head III at the Department of Agriculture, MoAF.
His Majesty the King granted dhar to appoint them as Dzongdags on 12th October 2022.
