The Department of Culture, Ministry of Home and Cultural Affairs yesterday launched the first ever cultural heritage database system in the country. The department had prioritized this activity in the 12th Five Year Plan with the aim to document important heritage sites and establish a database system that manages the inventory of heritage sites in Bhutan.

The project was generously supported through financial grant from the U.S Ambassador’s Fund for Cultural Preservation (US AFCP) and technical support from Bhutan Foundation under the project titled “Documentation and Inventory of Heritage Sites” and covered four Dzongkhags of Bumthang, Mongar and Trashigang in the first phase.

A publication of the report on the heritage sites that have been documented was also released that captures the information on the individual heritage sites and also draws a regional comparison among heritage sites of central and eastern regions.
The program was graced by Her Excellency, Ms. Patrica A. Lacina, Charge De’ Affairs of U.S Embassy in New Delhi, India.
